PAX 2006 And Crazy Stuff

dudelovenextI don't think I'll go into much about Friday evening. Had a mostly nice birthday dinner with Reneé and company (happy belated birthday, Reneé! (and Karl!)). My hearing must be really going because I'm having a harder and harder time hearing people in group settings. People can hear me okay (I think) since I tend to talk loudly, but not to much the other way around. `^_^
Saturday we got up and watched some Viva Pinata. The show...was...interesting. It definitely has some macabre themes for a kids show, but hey, kids gotta find out what really happens to pinatas and where they come from at some point!
Afterwards, we headed down to PAX. Sadly, we got there a little late for me to enter the Tetris DS tournament, so we wandered through the Exhibition Hall (saw a couple familiar work faces, and Audrey was working the Sweet Kitty booth). Picked up the second Penny Arcade book and a Wario dangle thing for my cell phone. :) We saw Tina at the registration booth, too.
After that we headed to the tabletop gaming where we met Nate and Arren. We stuck around for a bit and played a demo of a game called Spoils. Interesting game, seems a bit of a Magic clone in ways; Adam (Whitney's co-worker) and I were able to half-ass our way through it based on our combined Magic knowledge. :) After that we decided we were hungry, so we walked over to P F Chang's. A tasty lunch/dinner (NEVER getting drinks there again. Six dollar and twenty-five fucking cents for a 151 and coke! Never again! Yeesh. We then went over to Barnes & Noble and Anime Kingdom for a bit.
Anyway, it got a little late for any new tournaments, so we kinda hung around. Whitney needed to take a little break, so we sat down and read some comics that she got from B & N. Eventually we joined Adam and Charles in the Console Freeplay room for some Donkey Konga 2. Sadly, it didn't work out too well. :( We had fun, but Whitney's left bongo drum was kinda on the fritz, and there was so much noise in the room that the bongo's were clapping off and on. `^_^
After that, Whitney decided to head home, so I stuck around for the Mario Kart: Double Dash!! tournament. Arren and I were kicking some ass (well, Arren carried the team, but I like to think I did okay with the blue sparks and items). Gema and her husband were there to cheer us on a bit (they were eliminated in the first round), and Nate and Tina showed up later. We made it all the way to the finals out of 256 teams...but...just couldn't quite make it. They were good players, but I think there was some nerves going on there since we got caught on a couple of corners (in the final eight races, we placed 2nd once; the rest of the time, it was 5th or 7th). We ended up getting 7th...no prizes, but out of 256 teams, still decent.
I headed home after that, where I proceeded to read some of the new Penny Arcade book before heading to bed. :)
And here I am at work. Tired, but the giant mocha that I got earlier helped. :) Life is pretty good, I'd have to say. :)

Went to Las Margaritas for dinner; $4.50 for lemon drops (and they sent along a shot glass filled w/the leftover :9)
