Since they decided to charge me $70 for an extra 177 minutes of talking...they're expensive enough as it is! .40 a minute is NOT acceptable.

So, could any recommend a good cell phone company? I'm looking for:

* A phone that takes pictures so the person's picture appears on the screen.

* Must be over 300 anytime minutes.

* Phone plan should preferably be under $40 a month.

* Able to download ringers and screensavers.

Any ideas? I'll be sending Sprint a nasty e-mail, then once I get some suggestions I'll probably change over. Thanks! :)

400 minutes with unlimited weekend and nights plan for $39.99 (plus tax) at T-mobile. Other options/additional available too.

You can get a snazzy phone too, I recommend the Samsung E315.

A really great site. $2 a month, lets you download unlimited ringers (and anything else). Also, you can upload your own from your computer to the site (to download to your phone). ^_^

I Have T-Mobile

I have the motorola V600 through T Mobile. I can make mp3 ring tones, custom backgrounds, and take pictures. You can use any image you want for a person when they call you. All you need is the data cable, and you can put anything on the phone. I love it. Plus you can call any T Mobile person for free!

I like Verizon. Their service is really good. The phone selection isn't too pretty, but they do have video phones and picture phones and with Get It Now, you can download ringtones. My service is about $58 a month with 1500 minutes free a month including Get It Now and 500 free text messages (sending and receiving each).

I'd go with either Cingular or T-Mobile. I have Cingular right now. When my contract is up, I may go to T-Mobile.

With Cingular you can pay $39 per month plus tax for 450 any time minutes, national coverage(no roaming fees) and I think 5000 weekend/night minutes.

I have the V400 phone and I have photos that show up when someone calls. The phone is a little slow in loading my mp3 ringtones and the picture. By the time I open the phone to see and hear all that, it's already time to answer it before I miss the call.

But check out the Motorola RAZR phone, it's badass. Just like the V400 but bigger screen. Wider but flatter phone. And I read, I think on cnet.com, that it has a faster processor.

Both Cingular and T-Mobile are on GSM networks.

I'd go with Either AT&T/Cingular (they merged) or T-Mobile. And...go for a Nokia brand phone. They're the easiest ones to add graphics and ringtones to. With my Nokia 6820, all I have to do is make my own graphic or ringtone, upload it to the internet, then tell my phone to go to that URL, and it lets me save the image or ringtone. It also has a camera (not the best) and a flipout keybooard. (only AT&T/Cingular offer this phone though)

Yah...but you can only get it from like eBay or AT&T/Cingular themselves. =P BTW...I unlocked mine myself. =)

With my Motorola, I use a USB cable to move images and sound files(including mp3 files) back and forth. That way I don't have to use the phone's web browser or use multi-media text messages, which add up in cost in the cellphone bill. I think Nokia has a USB cable for their phones as well. Cingular will never tell you about that because they prefer that you pay more to use their text message and wireless internet service.

Oh yeah, I once called Cingular years ago about my old Nokia phone. I forgot the details, but one of the things the operator tried with me was give me some code which turned out to be an unlock code. So it seems they know how to unlock phones. If you have a phone you want to use for another provide, such as a phone you got from Cingular you want to use with T-Mobile, ask them if they can unlock or at least activate it for you before you sign anything.

And as usual, as for anything you can get. If you get a new phone, ask about a car charger, carrying case, ear piece, etc. Usually a Cingular dealer will provide you these free of charge as a convenience. Before they assign you a phone number, ask them for a range of available numbers and choose one that you like and think will be easy for you and others to remember.

Ask them exactly how much your bill will be including tax. Ask them about the phone's warrantee, their insurance plan option, etc. Be sure to understand the length of your contract. Usually it's two years before you can cancel. One year if you get a phone at Best Buy. They carry phones and plans for Cingular, Sprint, Verizon, and I think T-Mobile. But they're less likely to provide you free phone accessories.

Pay a Cingular and a T-Mobile location a visit for information first before deciding. Let them know you're just there for information and get some brochules. Unless you know for sure what you want.

If you're getting a new phone, ask to see and play with a working display model of that phone. I've done that and either the display phone was working, or the salesperson let me see his/her phone. They often have the newest phones for themselves. Best Buy usually has working phones out for people to play with, just like the rest of the store.

And ask them by what method can you find out, at any given time, how many minutes you've used and have left before the next billing month.

.40 a minute is pretty standard across the industry. This is the kind of call I used to a hundred of everyday. "Hi, I signed this contract where I agreed to pay this much if I exceed my monthly airtime, and I did, but it's all you fault cause you're the cell company!" You went 177 minutes over. It's like gas dude. You run out, you have to pay for more. Stop blaming that shit on the phone company.

Doesn't matter if it's a standard, it's gouging people. For what I'm paying Sprint, I can get double that from T-Mobile. Just means Sprint is losing my business. Good thing you're not in charge. :)

t-mobile has the smallest coverage area, which is why they can give so many minutes. Check the coverage maps before you buy. I'm not trying to be "in charge", I just happen to have inside industry info.

If that's the case, you can check the T-Mobile coverage in the area you live in. If it's fine and you don't travel a lot, that should be fine if the money part is a better deal for you. If you have a nationwide plan, meaning you don't get roaming charges, you can use it anywhere it gets a signal, even if that signal is from another carrier.
