Date: 2005-09-03 04:08 am (UTC)Ah well, I'll stick with Resident Evil and Silent Hill. How's SH2 coming? :)

Date: 2005-09-03 06:19 am (UTC)In general, it is best to think of this as a kind of adventure-puzzle game. Look at the way the enemy moves and behaves. When taking down an enemy from a distance, go into first-person mode and make the shot from there, since that allows you to pick off head shots and such. In fact, you can think of it as being like RE4, where when you need to make a shot you hold still and hold-down the aim button. Know where you can hide. Take note of any lockers, crates with space beneath, low air-ducts, narrow passages, etc. If someone spots you then you can usually hide in those places until the heat dies down. Further, if someone does indeed spot you, then you can toss a chaff grenade. That will jam his radio temporarily, allowing you to take him out or split before reinforcements can be contacted. Remember that you can and should take out cameras with your gun, just make sure that you use something silenced to do it. Also, breaking the enemy's neck is a classic move that takes the enemy down quietly with no blood or bullets spent. Just make sure to catch the guard at a time when you and he are isolated from the view of others.
Of, and if you do not like Solid Snake then you will be pleased to know that except for the first hour or so of gameplay, you play as someone else in MGS2.

Date: 2005-09-03 06:50 am (UTC)And yeah, there's the great level design like "climb up and down 20 flights of stairs," and the part near the end where you climb up Metal Gear, then climb down Metal Gear, then climb up metal gear, then climb down metal gear, then climb up Metal Gear, then climb down Metal Gear, then climb up Metal Gear. (No exaggeration.)

Date: 2005-09-07 11:19 pm (UTC)I don't mind the cut-scenes; I enjoyed them, but I can see how a lot of people wouldn't.
I'd have to think about any plot holes, but yes, some of the dialogue was a little....yeah, just interesting. :) But it was good, I enjoyed the game overall.
Hm, I don't remember that part about climbing up and down Metal Gear over and over...

Date: 2005-09-08 03:19 pm (UTC)Really? It was near the end.
You have that launch key card, and you climb up Metal Gear with it. Then you drop it, and have to go back down to pick it up. Then you go back up and insert the card. Then you keep having to go back and forth to the cold and hot areas to change the card, and each trip involves a climb up and down Metal Gear.
As for Xenosaga, I never (and will never) play it. But Xenogears definitely gets a thumbs down from me. Disc 2 was a complete joke.

Date: 2005-10-07 11:31 pm (UTC)It got a little annoying, going back and forth, back and forth...but it wasn't super long, so it was okay.
Xenosaga got a little boring for me. I just wasn't feeling any connection with the characters at all. Kinda essential when I play an RPG.
