I'm trying VERY HARD to not go out to a fast food places late at night, when I have the munchies kinda feeling. Any alternatives you guys can think of that can appease the hunger?

I like eating lots of apples, or just a couple, and then drinking a lot of juice. Heh. o_O Hope you find something good/healthy to eat?

I find if I go to bed on an empty stomach that I eat less the next day.
Maybe carrots?

Guess I could give that a try...

Part of it, I'm sure, is just me needing to give up greasy foods. I'm sure once I'm over that, I'll be okay. Geez, worse than a caffeine addiction. `^_^

Those little carrots are awesome for a snack. Or sometimes I like to eat a bag of salad like chips. XD I second the Juice thing, I always keep alot of juice around, If I find my self craveing a snack I find a big glass of yummy juice does the trick. ^___^

I think I just need to get off the grease. Once I do, I should be okay. I had some chips and salsa last night which helped. I like juice, but it just has SO many calories. `^_^

I recommend throwing together a sandwich. Some meat, cheese, mustard, mayo, and if you feel like it some lettuce too. Maybe toast or grill it too, that can help.

But something like that goes a hellofa' long way toward sating hunger, and probably would fifill the greese craving too without the added crapola' that the fast food places would put in.

pfffffffffffffffffft. you need grease my friend. :)

get some potatoes, get some oil, make some fries. It'll crave the greasyness urge, and if you use olive or vegetable oil, it won't be too bad for you

Well, not the saturated kind that you'd find at a fast food place. :) I enjoy throwing olive oil on stuff...maybe I should give that more of a try with cooking.

Good idea. :) I think I'll try making fries with olive oil!

True, though it's all unsaturated, and your body needs some fat (I think a healthy balance was supposed to be something like 40/30/30 protein/carbs/fat?).

But yeah, I try not to drench things with it. :)

Well, I was going to say carrots too.. I guess it doesn't help for someone to say that again.. but they ARE an awesome snack.

Pickles, anything high in fiber (fiber crackers/cereals/brocoli), whole wheat breads, stuff like that is always good for a late night snack.

If you feel you need something greasy, making a toast sandwitch of sorts... If you toast some whole wheat bread and put cheese in the middle, the melted cheese will give a greasiness of sorts.

From the American Diabetes Association, " Cheese carries an extra 100 calories per ounce, as well as added fat and sodium." Be careful of cheese. If you really want some, try and make it a light cheese like mozzarella that's low in sodium and fat.

My mom's a diabetic and she's done horribly with her sugar. She went to the doctor last week and he told her that if she doesn't straighten out, she'll have to get stronger medication and of course, meds can only go so far. I went onto the ADA's website and found some really awesome tips for eating right and honestly, this stuff applies to everyone, not just diabetics. I think you may like it. It's very realistic in it's suggestions. It gives guides to eating out because everyone does it and they need to know what's relatively safe. It also gives recipes, grocery lists, how to read labels, basic nutrition facts, etc. You might want to check it out.

I'm not concerned about the sodium, since I just gotta drink water to cancel that out. The fat's a bit of a different story, but you do have to eat a good amount of mozzarella (pretty much what I exclusively eat) for it to be a bad amount. Still, I try and keep it on the light side.

I'll check out that website, though. I'm always looking for new recipes!

Thanks! *hugs*
