Fridays

I'm not that big of a fan of Fridays anymore. Technically it's my Monday, and it's the one day that Dan's not here, so I don't have anyone to nerd out about as far as WoW. `^_^

It's been a good week, though I have like no energy whatsoever today. Add on top of that that they've blocked Gmail on my computer again (Gmail just won't load, so I'm not really sure what's going on). *sigh* It's highly annoying.

Anyway, so yes. GameNoc was actually a lot of fun. Lauren and Kevin made an appearance (along with some of the usuals like Brack and Brittany, Seb and Hannah). It was some good times. The game of Settlers we played was a little chaotic seeing as how much vodka was floating around. `^_^

Really don't even want to think about yesterday. -_-

Stef got a shiny new toy, and man, I really want one now. :) Costco is having a sale at the end of June (just in time for my bonus!). It's a Hewlett-Packard laptop. The ad only has that it has 2GB of RAM, a 120GB hard drive, comes with a CD/DVD RW drive, and it's a Intel Celeron (I think) Duo processor for like $999. Not sure how good it would be for gaming (I can't see an HP having that great of a graphics card), but I wouldn't really be getting it for gaming anyway (yay school!). We'll see.

Been getting a little bit more back into anime and manga. Been reading DearS...oh man. :) I want my own Ren. Or I wouldn't mind having a Sensei like that. :)

Well, back to work. So much I wanted to get done this past weekend...-_-

I am not a big fan of most Friday's either (until after work.) Everyone at the office wants some asset or another secured for their use by the end of the day on Friday so they can go home for the weekend. This means I usually have about three people nagging me at once to get them some working machines. Makes for a very busy day.

Last GameNoc was not so much fun to me. There are some reasons why that I would rather not discuss, but also because of the number of people and the chaos. I tend not to do very well in that kind of social environment. I operate much more smoothly in the smaller scale social gatherings that are typical of GameNoc.

I would like to get one of those Apple MacBooks. Install Bootcamp on it and I will be able to natively run Mac OS, Windows, and Linux all on the same machine. Plus two gigs of RAM, a 2.16 gigahurtz Intel Core Duo processor, and an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with quarter gig of video RAM. Trouble is, it costs some where in the three-thousand dollar range.

Funny story; the Christmas before last I downloaded the entire DearS series. Ugg, I just could not get your damn avatar out of my head! I had to watch the series to purge it. I would not mind having a sensei like that either. But then I have a strange fetish that way.

Well, it wasn't a giant group, but I think there was a bit more liquor than there usually is. Understandable, some people just aren't for the chaotic party environment like that (I noticed you seemed to enjoy yourself at the end of the night when we were all talking about nerd stuff). :)

Yeah, the HP laptop is only $999, so it's very affordable in a laptop sense.

I watched DearS and really liked it. :) A ton of fan service, but I'm not complaining at all. :)

Ah! There is that bewitching avatar again! O_O

Yeah, my usual reaction is to find some quiet corner of the house and hide there until things calm down a little. You know, batten down the hatches and withdraw the sails until the storm passes. Talking about nerd stuff is where I really shine!

True, that is a very affordable laptop. I wanted to get the expensive one though, because it will be my next computer rather than just another toy for me, so I consider it to be worth the investment. I just need to save up for a few months...

If you replace the line "I'm your slave" in the opening music with the line "You're my slave" then you would have a song that my cat would sing.

Sensei is awesome. :)

I don't mind getting something a little cheaper since my laptop will mostly be a "school and traveling" kind of computer, not my main one. I might not be able to play WoW on the highest settings, but with that much RAM I should be able to. :)

Heh, heh. :)
From: [identity profile] fearless-son.livejournal.com
Very true. I have noticed that RAM is the limiting factor on my machine when it comes to WoW performance. I only have half a gig. Hence why I want to get some more before setting my computer back up.

Hot damn, I want a laptop like that. o.O

Costco has a coupon where you can save $200 (so that it will be $999). If you're interested, I'm sure Stef or myself can grab you a coupon book. :)

*_* Wonder how long it's good for...?

A coupon book would be lovely.

The book is an ongoing summer promo thing. The one for the laptop I described is good...I think it's the last week of July.

They also have a coupon for a Toshiba laptop. The laptop about the same (1 GB RAM instead of 2 GB) but with the coupon it's $899. That's one's for mid-August I think.

Hmmm...

Thing is, I dunno if any of their computer come with XP Pro, because I'm sick of this Home edition bs.

I may get one via Newegg.com for a similar price, we'll see. *ponders*

Hm, have to double check, but you (currently, at least) won't find anything better on Newegg. The cheapest laptop that has 2GB of RAM is about $1400.

:( Damn...I really want XP Pro, but I guess home would suffice.

D'ya know what the other specs are? Do they have that on their website?

I'll post the blurb when I get home. I can't remember if it said XP Pro or Home, but I'll check that too. I don't think it's up on the website, but I'll also post the item number in the catalog. :)

Meh. *shrug* I'm really holding out for XP Pro. Thanks for telling me, though.

*pst* You do know a few guys who work at MS, so it's not like it's hard to get a copy of Pro...

If you are thinking of me or Arren, then you should know that neither of us can get discounts at the employee store, since we are not technically on Microsoft's payroll.

Sad cheese. *sigh* Well, I should see if I could get a student price at Western's bookstore.

That's why you can get people you know to get you stuff. :)

GameNoc was pretty good. *nods* Little more enthusiastic than I'm usually comfortable around, but entertaining nevertheless. I liked sitting outside by the campfire. And listening to Colin geek out about Halo was fun. XD I so love that music.

Also, you get massive kudos for actually spelling my name right. THANK YOU! *laughs* Everybody always spells it like Britney Spears, it's something of a pet peeve.

The laptop deal sounds pretty good--but I've had experiences with Celeron and it tends to run a little hot. A friend of mine also agrees. If you want a laptop with good game play, I suggest an Athlon processor. HP also has those as well, it's just going to cost a little more.

Good luck with it. :)

$700? That has to be pretty low-end. How much RAM?

But no, I agree. I've heard AMD is the way to be, at least with gaming.

The 2GB is RAM. Typically, the more you have, the faster things run.

Hm, my computer doesn't want to load that page for some reason. `^_^

Okay, now I can see it, but it doesn't have your individual choices. `^_^ I guess it depends on what you'll be doing...I would guess web surfing and word processing mostly? If so, yeah, that should be just fine for ya. :)
