I.HATE.INSURANCE. Especially auto insurance. Biggest scam ever made, next to extended warranties. *fume*

I'm going through Esurance now and they basically wanted to charge me about a $100 in fees if I pay month-to-month. So I had to end up buying my insurance in once lump payment. I wouldn't have minded if it wasn't so unexpected. -_-

I think Esurance might've been something like $5 a month plus some extra fee...I can't remember, but they gave me a "grand total" of around $600 if I paid month-to-month.

Well, I'm a bit more calm about the amount (though not the timing); less than $100 a month isn't bad...

45? Bah on you. :P

Ah well, less than what I was paying. `^_^

Oh what insurance is that?

I can't imagine how paying $600 every six months is a good idea. Yep, sucks. I wish I didn't need help with paying it. Someday I hope my boss will realize NO ONE CAN LIVE ON $8 an hour. Seriously? Wait.. don't I have a degree?!? Aren't I paying interest on my LOANS!?!?

Ugh. Great, now look what ya'll did.. now I'm pissed off again. *sigh*

Well, maybe all insurance companies do it, but in order to save about $100 in fees I had to pay the "one lump sum". Which I don't mind, but it was unexpected and left me kind of poor for my birthday week. Bah!

*hugs* Don't be pissed. I'm supposed to be pissed. `^_^

*snort* XD I foresee this convo with my brother in the future:
"Did you know insurance is like, the biggest scam ever?"
"What makes you say that?"
"Because you're the biggest scam artist I know."

Insurance is what I'm doing now, y'know. Life insurance is essentially you saying:
"Betcha I die!"
...and us saying...
"Betcha you don't!"

Car insurance is the same thing, replacing "die" with "crash", and is calculated based on your risk of crashing. As you get older, and have no claims on your insurance or tickets, it'll get cheaper.

Also, shop around. Different car insurance companies are vastly different.

I guess I don't mind life insurance as much because 1) it doesn't seem to be as expensive and 2) my company pays for it.

But you don't have to have life insurance, whereas you have to have car insurance. On some level I can see the logic, but it's not cheap.

Yeah, I did a bit of shopping. Progressive wanted like $950 for six months; Esurance wanted $500, so I'm happy for that at least. :)

I'll disagree on both items, but then again, for the insurance angle, ours up here, is government controlled, which means, even though there is competition, it still means there is a monopoly.

Extended warranties do work, if you read the fine print, and use it to your advantage. I never believed it, until my video card in my laptop died, and being in the extended period of the warranty, it was covered.

I think my main problem is it's something that you're FORCED to have. There's no other kind of insurance I can think of that you're forced to have other than car insurance. I don't have to have homeowner's/renter's insurance, or life insurance, or even health insurance.

Heh, not all of 'em. :) Toys'r'Us sells extended warranties for Nintendo systems. All it does is extend the normal warranty; it doesn't cover physical damage, which is what a lot of people think it does (yes, they're fault for not reading, but possibly reps at the store could lie about it).

The other thing you could do is pay it in the lump sum and just continue to budget for that amount of money you need every six months. That's what John and I do. We basically say "hey, we're paying X amount into insurance this month" and set it aside, so it's there when we need it months later.

Plus, we always know when we're going to be hit/broken in to now... right before our bill is due (That stands for the last three billing cycles). Maybe knowing our bill is coming due will remind us to constantly watch the car for that month.

Yeah, basically once my car's done being paid off, I should be able to put around $400+ a month into savings for stuff like that. It's just...right now it's a bit of a hassle. `^_^
