Slow Week

Oh, let's see...not a whole happening this week. Mostly working, playing games, and seeing Whitney. :)

Wednesday was pretty quiet, though I did get to try out my shiny new Xbox 360. :) Sadly it's been having some disc read errors, so I'm hoping I don't have to take it back/call tech support. Thanks for the gift, Whitney! :)

GameNoc...I dunno, I'm just not really enjoying GameNocs anymore. It's just gotten too loud to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing everyone and stuff, but it's hard to enjoy myself when I have to yell to Whitney who's sitting like a foot away from me so that she can hear me. I know, parties can get loud, but it's just different. Hard to explain.

Woke up with a slight hangover Thursday morning, but finished watching V for Vendetta. A very good movie, and like Whitney pointed out it was 1984 scary. Anyway, I was pretty much zoning all of Thursday...fell asleep in the later afternoon, played some games earlier. Later in the evening Whitney, Charles, and myself headed down to meet James, Aubrey, and John for Pho. Tasty stuff as usual, though we missed Dan. :(

Woke up today to...well, not the best start. Just felt a little groggy and I ended spilling a little carton of milk all over myself. -_- On the mini-plus side, I got my new schedule which goes into effect a week from tomorrow. Sunday through Thursday from 9:30am-6pm. Not exactly what I wanted (would've liked 8:30am-5pm), but it works; I can sleep in and I get to leave earlier.

Today's been pretty slow, as in, it's just crawling along. Tonight I'll be hanging with my buddy Rich. He's not feeling 100%, but he still wanted to get together, so we might just have dinner and hang out at his place for a while. Still have to see.

And geez, I'm just way too freakin' poor right now. Whitney's been way too kind by buying me dinner several times. `^_^ I'm just trying to get my car paid off...and I think my next big purchase will be new tires or a new phone (mine's falling apart, and I'm afraid I won't be able to recharge it one of these times since the pins are starting to break on the AC Adapter). If anyone's read through my rambling, can anyone recommend good tires? I need replace all four (they have 86,000 miles on them) and I don't mind spending for quality if they're gonna last (I expect to probably spend about $400-500 on them).

Well, time to get crackin' on my inbox... :)

Yeah, I agree with you. Sadly we seem to try yell over eachother to be heard. I admit I'm likely part of the problem. ^^;

Maybe it's just cause I expect GameNoc to be a quiet, gaming evening. Obviously not mouse-quiet or anything, but not something where you're required to raise your voice.

It's more than one person, at least from my observation. And I don't mean anything against people with loud voices; it's just difficult when there's several of them in the room. `^_^

Busy

Sounds like you have a lot going on. :)

I always just get generic tires. I am not picky when it comes to tires.

I guess I could get generic tires, but a couple of times I've had to slam on the breaks my vehicle (not necessarily my car) skidded a pretty good ways, so I'm a bit paranoid about that kind of stuff now.

Tires

I don't know much about tires, but I don't think they differ all that much. :)

Hmmm, what discs has your XBox 360 been having errors with? I know that Brittany, Stef, and I watched a DVD movie on it last night (since we could not find the remote for the DVD player) and it was skipping, but we attributed that to a dirty disc.

You were groggy this morning too? Damn, I was too. I kept zoning out in the shower this morning. When I got to work, I feel asleep sitting up at my desk and actually dreamed while doing so. Though regarding your new schedule, it actually matches mine (though granted mine is an informal, self-imposed one.) I am concerned about how morning bathroom use will work though...

Oh, and how much for a DS Lite with tax? I need to get that money to you.

It did it with Kameo, even after I cleaned the disc (though I guess that wasn't working in Whitney's 360 either). It also happened pretty randomly with Dead Rising. Between Wednesday and Thursday it probably happened about 5-6 times with DR. I'm going to try other games to see how they work. I also noticed that my 360 makes WAY more noise than Whitney's; I can usually hear it spinning, unlike hers.

Yeah, not sure what it was. I went to bed hot as hell but woke up pretty freaking cold. `^_^ Well...hmm...that is a concern for the bathroom. What time and how long are you usually in the bathroom?

$118 should do (that's with the tax). We should get them in in the next few days. :)

Hmmm, sounds like an issue with your XBox 360 then. However, I must warn you, when you hear it spinning, do not jostle, hit, or otherwise move your XBox 360. I have seen/hear this happen in other XBox 360s before, and if you cause the disc to jump a bit in the tray while it is making those noises you can cause the 360 to damage the disc. You will notice a circular streak in the center of the data area that goes all the way around if that happens. On the off chance that does happen, the damage can be repaired with a professional buffing machine (since I have repaired such damage several times myself while I was working at Game Crazy,) but the procedure to fix it costs about two bucks.

Usually I get up at a quarter until eight, then I got to the bathroom and usually get back out at about twenty after.

Hmmm, one hundred and eighteen bucks, eh? I think that I can afford that, even allowing for the cost of rent. Alright, I shall deliver the money to you tonight. If you are not home, then I shall leave it on your desk.

Great. -_- Guess I'll have to look into the warranty information. I wonder if MS has a walk-in repair counter...and nope, I don't move disc systems at all while the power's on and it has a disc in it. I'll have to look into it tonight/tomorrow.

That might not be a problem, then. If I can get in right after you, I can make it to work just fine (I think).

Yep. I'll probably slash a little off that and call it your birthday present or something. Or I might grab you a game or two.

Microsoft has actually be very good about supporting defective XBox 360s. Call 1-800-4MY-XBOX for specifications. Usually this means that you just give it to them and they give you a fresh one. Not too difficult, especially considering that you can just swap the HDD unit and not lose any saved stuff.

Okay, I will try not to take up too much time in the bathroom.

Sure, that sounds great. Technically the eighteenth is my birthday, but I would not mind having it earlier than that. And I think that I would prefer the extra game or two, considering that I have already withdrawn the money.

*whew* I was worried I was gonna have to transfer all my stuff out. I didn't realize that the HDD could just be swapped out (in hindsight, though, I should've realized that). I'll probably e-mail or call them shortly. It sounds like it's just something wacky with the DVD drive.

Nah, thinking about it, it should be fine. If I'm in the bathroom as soon as you get out, then I should have plenty of time.

Cool, I'll see what I can get you. :)

When you get back home, remind me to show you how to detach your HDD. It would probably be good to know how to do that. Also, please let me know if you are going to send it in shortly before you do so. I would like to transfer your profile over to my memory unit just in case the support people decide that there is a problem with the HDD too, or just get too lazy to attach it to the replacement 360. If it comes back with the original HDD with all its contents, then we just transfer your profile back, no harm done. If on the other hand the HDD is blank when returned, at least we still have your profile intact.

It actually may not be anything that needs repair. Apparently there have been lots of complaints (http://www.capcom.com/BBS/forumdisplay.php?s=eeba819f97b957e4497f04542e66523e&forumid=142) about disc errors with Dead Rising. I'm going to sit down and play some other games to verify, though...heh, guess we'll see.

Yeah, I wasn't going to leave my info on my HDD, just in case. I'll probably just do a system transfer and transfer my info to Whitney's or something.

Date: 2006-09-04 05:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fearless-son.livejournal.com
"System transfer"? I am not sure that I know what you mean.

However, I know that you cannot transfer stuff off of a 360 without a memory unit. For some reason the designers thought that just hooking machines up with an ethernet cable and transferring files directly over that would make file-transfer a little too convenient for the end user...

From: [identity profile] dudelovenext.livejournal.com
According to Whitney you can just link up two Xbox 360s...you can hook up a PC the exact same way, so I don't see much of a difference...

That's why the games have been uptairs lately. Upstairs is for regular games, Downstairs is for video games, and that way we don't run into the same density problems we'd been having.

If the downstairs was too loud, then it ain't my fault, because I didn't even go downstairs.

From: [identity profile] dudelovenext.livejournal.com
Yeah, the upstairs downstairs thing seems to be working pretty well. Helps to make it not so crowded. :)

Heh, nope, not your fault at all. I guess the most recent even specifically was when Nikki, Whitney, and I were around the dining room table and Whitney and I were eating dinner. Voices from the kitchen were a bit loud to hear. `^_^

Oh, well that's mostly Hannah, then. But she already knows she's loud.

Date: 2006-09-01 11:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dudelovenext.livejournal.com
I think mostly Hannah and I'd also say Dave. Absolutely nothing against them, they're just...well...speak loudly. `^_^

From: [identity profile] fearless-son.livejournal.com
Dave was not even at the last GameNoc though, and will not be to many others either considering that he works Wednesday nights now.

Dave actually was (Seii, not Brack).

Heh, we know too many Daves and Johns. `^_^

From: [identity profile] fearless-son.livejournal.com
Oooooh, right. Sorry, my mistake.

(Though in my defense Brack can be rather loud.)

From: [identity profile] dudelovenext.livejournal.com
I wonder if I'm loud. I know I talk louder than I normally would to make sure people hear me...

Date: 2006-09-02 12:53 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fearless-son.livejournal.com
I think that your loudness is a direct function of how much you have had to drink.

Most of the time volume is at a very reasonable level though.

Date: 2006-09-02 01:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dudelovenext.livejournal.com
Heh, yeah, I know that can happen when I get very drunk. `^_^

I'm glad to hear that, though.

Date: 2006-09-03 12:34 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fearless-son.livejournal.com
Actually, it is mostly Stephen + Warioware veruse that gets loud. So long as we keep the two of you seperated...

I wish I would have read this earlier! I hope you had a good time with Rich! I'm still bitter that he didn't come over and say hi during the picnic, and THEN didn't come to the toga party! ;)

From: [identity profile] dudelovenext.livejournal.com
We had a really good time, and he calmed me down about about the stuff we were talking about the other night. :)

I'm gonna try and drag him along to the next party (not sure when that'll be, though).
