Ugh. Hopefully this piece of shit won't go anywhere (not like it's in Washington, but still), but you never can tell. Enough liberties have already been eroded...while we still enjoy a "I can state my damn opinion" air, here and there some people are whittling away at it.

Fuck. Don't tell me what I can and can't say.

South Carolina, eh? Tough call. People might be apathetic enough not to care, but in general people don't take too kindly to first amendment being taken away from them. This is America, we say what we want (and then get punched for it)!

"Must be a yearning deep in human heart to stop other people from doing as they please. Rules, laws - always for other fellow. A murky part of us, something we had before we came down out of trees, and failed to shuck when we stood up. Because not one of those people said: Please pass this so that I won't be able to so something I know I should stop. Nyet, tovarishchee, was always something they hated to see neighbors doing. Stop them for their own good"

-Robert A. Heinlein, writing in The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress

The narrator in that book was musing on some laws that a few people were attempting to pass in the newly formed the State of Free Luna, laws with similar reactions to the one you had and the commentors here. People hearing the proposed bills predictable tried to shout down the proposal as blatantly ridiculous. The person arbitrating the assembly encouraged everyone to calm down and hear the presenter out in full, which they grumbled but did.

Afterward, the bill was promptly defeated in vote.

Nanny state tactics aren't always the harbour of the left wing. My friends on the right side of the aisle engage in it on occasion.

Remember, while it may not be profanity in question, political correctness is censorship as well, and a more insidious kind. Remember when you could complement an attractive woman at work without fear of recrimination? NO, you don't, because sexual harrassment laws have been the purvue of the same kind of insidious nature. We have been working under this specific type of tyrrany for more than 20 years.

Remember that free speech, in whatever form is the bedrock of society, and just because you get offended doesn't mean that it should be outlawed. I mean this specifically for my more liberal leaning friends and politicians. Censorship, no matter the stripe, is a cancer to freedom.
