Compelled To Write
Jul. 6th, 2009 10:19 pmI came here with more to write, but by the time I started typing, my muse was apparently lost. ^_^
I guess it just feels kind of weird. I think I feel like I need to grow up. I think that I'm just used to having fun and having, in all honesty, very little responsibility. I have fun for the most part, just kind of hanging out and playing games (though still need to get out or have people over).
But I guess I'm kind of at the peak at where I'm going to be for customer service. I don't think there's much more "up" I can get from where I am; I really, really need to learn a new skill. I have a C# book. And it's actually readable. I just need to sit down and really dedicate myself to it.
I guess I just have a lot to work on.

Date: 2009-07-07 05:56 pm (UTC)Having other skills is important, no doubt, but without demonstrated job experience, skills alone will not get you very far. Thus what you need to do is to go into a related field, but one with other sets of responsibilities. This in turn will get you more experience distinct from what you have now, which will in turn allow you more opportunities for future diagonal motion. This is why I advise you to look at project management positions. In a sense, it is still a service profession, so your present experience still applies, only it goes from servicing the needs customers to servicing the needs of project development teams. It is more responsibility, and it requires at least a general knowledge in a variety of areas, without necessarily requiring expertise in any of those fields (except for servicing and facilitating needs for which you have nearly a decade of demonstrated expertise.) I think that you would be well-qualified for such a position, and such a position would leave you well situated for many other opportunities in the future as it will give you a chance to build demonstrated experience in a wide variety of other fields while you are there.
